Peristaltic pump head selection

In many applications, the choice of the peristaltic pump head is critical. Proper use of pump heads can eliminate many unnecessary failures during start-up and operation. Here are the factors to consider when selecting pump head functions:

• Flow range

Flow requirements determine the size of the pump line and the type of  peristaltic pump head for a particular purpose.

• Material of pump head

The pump head material shall be resistant to chemical corrosion, and the bearings shall be protected by enclosures to cope with corrosive fluids or harsh environmental conditions. The  peristaltic pump head with a high-performance plastic casing is lightweight, chemically resistant, and less expensive.

• Number of rollers

When the roller on the rotor of a given size decreases, the flow rate increases; But the pulsation also increases. When the roller increases, the ripple degree decreases, and the distribution accuracy increases. But the flow decreases, the service life of the pump tube shortens. As the number of rollers passing through the pump tube increases at a certain time, the vacuum performance and pressure performance of the pump tube also improve.

• Easy to assemble and disassemble

The installation and disassembly of the pump tube can greatly affect the customer's satisfaction with the pump. Pharmaceutical, food supply, and printing processes require frequent replacement of pump lines (e.g., once per shift or daily). To save time when cleaning or changing products, a removable  peristaltic pump head can be used, which saves expensive labor costs (see Figure 2).

Suitable pump pipe size number

A pump head type that is compatible with only one pump tube size can achieve the best performance of that size (e.g. pressure and vacuum capacity, flexural yield limit, etc.). The pump head that can be fitted with a variety of pump pipe sizes has a more average performance. This allows the same pump head to have a wide range of pumping flow rates.
